Passage: 1 Kings 3:5-12, Matthew 13:31-33,44-52

Hi Everyone:  It's official (Dave Phillips says so: July was "excruciatingly hot" with 17 scorching days of 30C and 15 "tropical nights" of 20+).  Perhaps August will be a bit cooler. let's hope so. Happy Emancipation Day!  In happier years this would have been Caribana weekend and hundreds of thousands of American friends and family would be lined up at the border right now.  On August 1st, 1834 slaves were "given" their freedom throughout the British Empire including Upper Canada and the Caribbean. As recent events have demonstrated the project of "emancipation" is far from complete to our collective national (and international) shame. "Pandemic taking disproportionate toll on racialized, low income groups" (All quotes thanks to Toronto Star 31st July). Please devote some thought and prayer to these statistics. How can Christians and churches help? Have a jolly good holiday weekend wherever you may be spending it.  God bless and preserve you and yours. Please keep each other, our church and leadership in your prayers.

Peace be with you, Duncan
